El Niño could mean the hottest year on record, meteorologists warn

(NEXSTAR) – With El Niño arriving earlier in the year than usual, meteorologists are warning things could heat up even more this summer. In the past, a strong El Niño has led to record global warmth, like in 2016 and 1998. The reason lies within the definition of an El Niño. An El Niño is a natural, temporary and occasional warming of part of the Pacific that shifts weather patterns across the globe. With El Niño starting before summer even officially begins, there's a lot more heating up on the way as El Niño grows toward its usual peak in winter. (KXAN) -- The Consumer Product Safety Commission is reminding people carbon monoxide poisoning from portable generators doesn’t just happen during the winter months. Summer storms can also knock out electricity, causing some people to use a generator for power.“We want to let people know that the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning increases in those summer months with those power outages,” said Patty Davis with the CPSC.More than 150 people in the United States die every year from accidental non-fire related CO poisoning, and some of those deaths are associated with generators. (NEWS10) -- According to the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office, a Warrensburg man was arrested and is accused of sending indecent material and having sexual contact with a female under 13, among other things. ST. LOUIS - Police need help searching for a missing woman Tuesday morning. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department issued are looking for 75-year-old Bettye Jean Smith-Hogan. She is 5'7", 160 pounds, with gray hair, and brown eyes. She was last seen at 9:00 a.m. at 920 Harlan Avenue. Former St. Louis alderman under federal indictment for insurance fraud Her family discovered that she was missing after seeing that her belongings were packed, but there was no indication of where she was going. Smith-Hogan previously spoke about her plans to return to her hometown in Mississippi. At least 10 people — including a suspect — were injured in an overnight shooting in downtown Denver as street celebrations following the Nuggets’ NBA basketball championship victory turned potentially deadly.Three victims were hospitalized in critical condition, Denver police said, after multiple shots were fired near the intersection of Market and 20th streets. Several vehicles were set on fire and a boat was burned during an arson spree in Panorama City Monday night.Police and firefighters responded to multiple reports of arson on Chase Street between Hazeltine Avenue and Vesper Avenue around 11:30 p.m.Video showed multiple vehicles were damaged and even a boat had been set on fire. A man said he called 911 after seeing the fires. “I was driving down Chase and I saw the Chase Street … crosswalks were on fire, so I called 911,” witness Jordan Bailey said.Bailey described seeing the crosswalk signs and a trashcan that were burning. (The Hill) - Target stores in at least five U.S. states had to be evacuated over the weekend after receiving bomb threats, which tie into the recent backlash the U.S.-based retail chain received for its Pride Month merchandise. The Washington Post reported on Monday that local news outlets in parts of Oklahoma, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Louisiana received emails from unknown individuals about bomb threats at the stores. In one email sent to Oklahoma City NBC affiliate KFOR, which is owned by Nexstar Media Group, the individual listed seven locations in and around the Oklahoma City area, claiming that two of the locations already had bombs in them, adding that they hid the bombs inside of products. “The bombs will detonate in several hours, guess which ones have the bombs.
