Two Boulder homes list above $6 million When Spyder Active Sports founder David Jacobs decided to sell his 8,700-square-foot Boulder mansion in 2015, he listed it for $7.25 million. Five months later, he pulled it off the market. He tried again in 2016 for $7.15 but removed the listing three months later.Jacobs and his wife, Jean Conway, listed the four-bedroom, six-bath home on Lee Hill Drive again in February with a $15 million price tag.If the Lee Hill Drive home sells for $15 million, it will shatter a record set in January when the $13 million sale of a Boulder estate became the county’s most expensive.Hoeffler plans to market the mansion in publications like Financial Times and The Wall Street Journal.Jacobs, who built the home after selling Spyder to a New York-based private equity firm for $100 million, said he had two requirements for architect John Mink.He wanted a primary suite on the main floor and to look at his race cars while eating dinner.“I wanted to be able to turn on the lights and see the cars in the sh...

New Denver weed lounge aims to reinvent nightlife with tableside bong service When Denverite Arend Richard looks at the local and national landscape for cannabis lounges, he sees a homogenous smattering of spaces designed for men. That’s why when Richard opens his own hospitality establishment this fall, the aesthetic and amenities will be specifically curated to attract women and gay individuals, as well as the canna-curious looking for a comfortable environment where they can try some of Colorado’s locally grown herb.Cirrus Social Club, opening at 3200 E. Colfax Ave., combines Richard’s experiences teaching people to smoke weed on YouTube under the moniker The Gay Stoner and working in high-end restaurants. And the way he describes it, the 420-friendly lounge is posed to be unlike anything else in Denver with lavish decor, custom furniture and florals, and a pink Steinway & Sons player piano to help set the ambiance.Arend Richard is founder of Cirrus Social Club, a lavish new weed smoking lounge coming to Denver in fall 2023. Your complete guide to Denver-area farmers markets in 2023 Spring has sprung, which means we can start shopping at local farmers markets again.“There are so many new things going on at the market this year, and we are excited about welcoming some new-to-farming, and new-to-us producers,” said Boulder County Farmers Market (BCFM) executive director Mackenzie Sehlke. Some highlights, she said, include handmade cheeses by Colorado Farm House Cheese; Black Cat Farms launching a stand in the Longmont market; unique hard ciders by Haykin Family Cider; and grass-fed beef by Grama Grass and Livestock, which utilizes public lands in Boulder to feed the cows (helping both the animals and the land). The BCFM Saturday Boulder and Longmont operations started on April 1, the first of the farmers markets to open for the year. The rest start launching in May and usually go until September or October.Just as the BCFM has seen growth, so too has City Park Farmers Market (CPFM), which opens May 13.“We’ve always been a growers-focused mar...

Schiff leads Porter, Lee in cash race for Senate bid to succeed Feinstein

Schiff leads Porter, Lee in cash race for Senate bid to succeed Feinstein The race to succeed Dianne Feinstein in the U.S. Senate is heating up, with Rep. Adam Schiff building a significant fundraising lead over top Democrats, adding to a favorable recent poll to claim status as the early frontrunner a year before voters cast their March primary ballots.Fundraising reports published April 15 show Schiff, of Burbank, reported $6.5 million in contributions for the first quarter of 2023, outpacing Rep. Katie Porter of Irvine, who raised $4.5 million — even though on Jan. 10 she became the first Democrat to announce a run for Feinstein’s seat, about two weeks ahead of Schiff. Rep. Barbara Lee of Oakland, who announced her candidacy Feb. 21, reported $1.1 million in contributions.“He’s clearly the early frontrunner,” University of California-San Diego political science professor Thad Kousser said of Schiff. “But it’s really early in a campaign that’s going to stretch into November 2024. We’ve got 16 months ...

Former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger reveals family history behind his antisemitism stance By Chandelis Duster | CNNFormer California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Wednesday spoke out against antisemitism and hate, pointing to his family history in the hope it would stand as an example for others.“My father was, and so many other millions of men were, sucked into a hate system through lies and deceit. And so, we have seen where that leads,” Schwarzenegger told CNN’s Dana Bash in an exclusive interview, after earlier telling her at a forum at the University of Southern California that he had been “born with a father that was a Nazi.”“I’ve seen it firsthand how broken this man’s — this man were,” he continued. “The kinds of atrocities that happened. How many millions of people had to die and then they ended up losers … in the Confederacy, losers, as they all have, this just doesn’t work. I mean, let’s just go and get along. And love is more powerful than hate.”The actor, who was born i...

49ers draft preview: Five predictions that could go right or wrong

49ers draft preview: Five predictions that could go right or wrong SANTA CLARA – The 49ers don’t do boring drafts.Something will surprise you the next three days, even if they’re not “on the clock” until No. 99 overall Friday night.Predicting what they’ll spring on us is an exercise based on educated guesses, historical trends, insider knowledge, and, if you’re into conspiracy theories, Reddit-room sleuthing. We already know how “kind of painful” it was for general manager John Lynch to sit out last year’s first round. He recalled Monday that “it’s a lot of sitting and waiting and seeing names go off that you really like.”Last year’s boredom was overcome by Day 1 trade drama. Deebo Samuel’s trade request went unfulfilled, while fellow wide receivers A.J. Brown and Marquise Brown were moved from their respective teams. Three months later, Samuel signed a contract extension.San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch smiles while speaking to the media ahead of the NFL Draft at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Monday, April 22, ...

Opinion: How could the A’s ungrateful owner do this to us?

Published Fri, 22 Nov 2024 07:29:23 GMT

Opinion: How could the A’s ungrateful owner do this to us? We’ve been dumped before, but this one feels like a bat to the head. How could they do this to us? And by “they,” I’m including a long list of guilty, betraying, ungrateful, emotionally abusive parties, starting with Messrs. Fisher and Kaval. What did we ever do to them besides giving them our money and cheering for their underfunded team?We showed up in the rain, in the smoke, in the heat, in the marine layer. We showed up when they were 3-15 and down by 10 runs and stayed through the 9th inning (as in last week). We took out-of-town guests to Monday night games and bought them $95 Khris Davis jerseys. We drummed, we bought hot dogs from Hal, we believed in Stephen Vogt. The only thing we never did was pay for parking.I’ve had divorces that were less painful than this. And like a bad marriage, everyone understands logically that the end is inevitable, has been foretold for decades, and is actually a step toward healing. But when the papers finally arrive, the shock and heartbreak is...
